Knit until you drop!

Really, all you need to become a good knitter are wool, needles, hands, and slightly below-average intelligence.  Of course, superior intelligence, such as yours and mine, is an advantage.

Welcome to the site of the Knit & Chat Group Stocksbridge.

We are a little group of about 20 people who like knitting and like to meet each other on a regular basis.

We came together for the first time on the 12th of May 2007 and from that date on, we've seen each other at least every two weeks.

Our meeting place started upstairs in the Stocksbridge Library (S36) but when the group grew too big to talk with each other in a comfortable way, the hospitable and friendly library staff let us use their community space downstairs. Here we can store our own stuff, boil water in the kitchen and drink coffee, tea and milk which we buy and administer ourselves.

You are very welcome to come to the meetings too!

Joining the group is free and everyone is welcome: beginners, advanced, young, old, male, female.
Also if you would like to learn to knit or crochet, just come along with needles or a crochet hook and some yarn. There is always someone from the group who's willing to teach you the first steps of this sometimes addictive skill.

We knit both for ourselves and for charity. To mention a few: we've knitted for AgeConcern/Innocent Smoothies, see also here, for premature babies (Bliss) in Sheffield and Rotherham and for Save the Children. (campaign known via TV presenter Paul O'Grady on Channel 4). Below you can see a few examples of the huge amount of clothes already made by knitters from our group for charity.

As a rule we've said we would come together every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, from 10am to 12am. However, circumstances can change this rhythm. On this page the date of the first coming meeting will be mentioned.
